  We all like to eat, and understandably so.  During crisis situations, the first thing most people get concerned about is where their next meal is coming from.  Under most situations, however, food should be near the bottom of the list of concerns.  Reason being, the human body can survive, if not comfortably, for at least 2 weeks, usually more than 30 days, without any source of food. That being said, if you go for more than a day or two without some type of nutrition, you’re definitely going to start suffering.

  Some of what you’ll start going through is general weakness and lethargy after about the second day, depending on your physical fitness, body type, and other assorted factors.  After about three to four days, you’ll start being able to more easily ignore your hunger, but you’ll still be weakened.  Just keep the basic idea that while you won’t die of starvation in two days, you’re going to start being impaired by the lack of nutrition.

  One of the biggest problems with lack of food in a survival situation is the possibility that you’re going to try and eat something that’s poisonous because of your hunger pains.  With that in mind, one thing that can be of benefit is to try maybe once a month to go a day or two without food but drinking plenty of fluids, so you can experience what it’s like to be without food.  That way, in a real emergency, you won’t be as likely to panic and will be better able to keep focused on the important stuff that goes into survival, like how to force yourself to go through the proper steps of testing to see if a plant is safe to eat (I.E. the UET)
